I love Rock & Roll stories, so this was a win for me right away. The whole rock star getting the 'average' girl thing does it for me. ; )

In this story, the rock star isn't quite a star... yet.

Finding her boyfriend and best friend in bed together, Renee moves home to Boston from California. Leaving behind a great job and heartbroken at losing, not only her boyfriend but her long-time best friend, Renee is lost and doesn't know what to do with herself. After moving into her new apartment, she has a small fender bender with one of the other residents. The guy yells at her and she can't believe what a jerk he is.

One night, Renee hears music and, thinking they've found an unknown recording of a song from one of her very favorite artists, Renee goes upstairs to find out what it is and where they found it. Unfortunately, the person is the guy with the bad attitude, Dylan, from the parking lot. Telling her that it's not a recording but him, Dylan goes on to explain that he knows he has talent but can't perform in front of people. They eventually become friends and, slowly, Renee gets him to come out of his shell and begin performing in front of others. Soon, he's actually playing with a band at a small, local venue and Renee is thrilled, especially knowing she had a hand in it.

As with all good love stories, the main characters discover that they love each other and, with Dylan over his stage fright, everything should be great, right?

Of course not! Old loves, misunderstandings and other surprises, all interfere to give the reader lots of angst to get through before the happy ending. Dylan is your typical, brooding musician but has a surprisingly fun and loving nature underneath. Renee is the stereotypical California girl, though she's from Boston. She appears flighty and superficial, but hides her strength and vulnerability well. Together, in my opinion, they come together to make a really great read.

Sound Bites A Rock Roll Love Story eBook Rachel K Burke Reviews

This was a sweet and easy story. Renee returns to her hometown after finding her boyfriend cheating on her. It kinda funny how Dylan and Renee first meet. It is not a friendly encounter. Dylan is a closet musician (Renee's words) and Renee helps him to step out his shyness and embrace the gift that he has.

This is all from Renee's POV and I wish that there was Dylan's as well. Dylan's character could have been fleshed out more. It felt like there was so much more to him and you just barely scratch the surface with him. But I did like the angry and brooding musician. Renee she felt at times immature and quick to get angry over little things. She was confident and snarky one moment and then unsure and shy the next.

The ending was very sweet and very them. I hope that there will be a follow up with this couple later.
I love a great story of romance and a rockstar. Dylan is a wonderful singer/ songwriter who has extreme stage fright. His neighbor, Renee, has just moved back to Boston after a terrible break up. She is a writer that had a great job in LA with a music magazine but her cheating boyfriend worked there too so she came home. Said boyfriend was caught by Renee in bed with her best friend, Justine. So she left her bf too. After a friendship with Dylan that included building his confidence and getting him a job with a friend's band, Renee realizes she is in love with him. Not knowing what his feelings are, she stays the course of friendship. Finding out the player, Dylan, is actually in love with her as well, they decide to move in together. A few jealous moments almost derailed the couple but in the end marriage and a baby are in the future. Not to mention a tour. A brilliant book.
Summary
Renee is an avid music loving, who decided to move to LA with her best-friend Justine right after high school. At 25 everything seems to be going well in her life. She has the job of her dreams as a music journalist, a good relationship with her boyfriend David, and her best-friend of over ten years by her side. Nothing can go wrong, right? WRONG. She walks in on her boyfriend and best-friend in bed together. After that, the next logical thing to do is run. So she goes back home to Boston to start her life over.

Once settled into her new apartment she meets Dylan, the silent rocker guy. They get off on the wrong foot, seeing as she backs into his car. But, they later build a friendship that soon turns into love.

My thoughts
"Sound Bites A Rock & Roll Love Story" is a cute and humorous book that brings that perfect balance of music and love!
At the beginning of the book I loved Renée and Justine's interactions. They had the perfect friendship. They decided to move across country together, they lived together; their friendship was picture-perfect. That's why it was so hard for me to see Justine sleep with Renee's boyfriend. I really wanted to know her reasoning behind her actions (which we learn later on in story)

In the middle once we starting seeing her relationship with Dylan develop, I was so cheerful because I wanted Renee happy. Plus they had so much in common; you could just tell they were meant to be. Their relationship was both realistic, and complicated. It wasn't just the typical girl meets guy, girl and guy fall in love, and everyone is happy. No! They had a few obstacles keeping them from being together; their ex's who won't go away, a career that's just taking off, and a few basic misunderstandings.

The only things I didn't enjoy was the amount of time it took Renee to tell him this big secret, but it all came together in the end, so no harm done.

Overall, this was a good story!
Characters 4/5 ... Sometimes Renee was a bit ignoring
Writing/error 5/5
Plot 5/5
Ending 4/5
Would I recommend it Yes!
